A CONCISE HISTORY OF THE CHURCH OF PENTECOST, UK ARCHWAY PIWC DISTRICT.INTRODUCTION: |
Just before Christ ascended into heaven, He commissioned His disciples to be His witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and in Samaria and unto the uttermost parts of the earth (Acts 1:8b). Jesus touched these ordinary believers with greatness, filling them with His miraculous power and assuring them of His presence in spreading the Gospel. With great compassion, and often at immense personal sacrifice, and risk of martyrdom, these early world evangelists or missionaries, presented the Good News to people of the world. |

Today The Church of Pentecost (C.O.P) has branches worldwide and in Ghana itself countless assemblies have sprung up in all the regions of the country, worshiping and praising the Lord. It will stand as a milestone in the fulfilment of God’s Covenant made with the founders of the Church at its beginning (from 1931) that the Church of Pentecost will spread throughout the world. It can therefore be said that it is time to Arise and Shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. (Isaiah 60:1) In 2004, the leadership of the then London Northern District under the chairmanship of Pastor James Kofi Sam saw the need to bring all the young people in Tottenham, Archway and Edmonton Assemblies together to start a Pentecost International Worship Centre in Archway. The First Presiding Elder was Elder Robert Owusu Moore. As the church continues to grow spiritually and numerically a vision was birth out to plant another church in Enfield. In 2006, Enfield PIWC Assembly was started with Elder Emmanuel Danso as the Presiding Elder. The meeting place is St. Barnabas Hall, Addison Road. During the 2008 General Council Meeting held at Pentecost University College in Accra, Ghana. The Council of the Church approved of the creation of Archway PIWC District comprising Archway and Enfield PIWC Assemblies. These two churches were carved out of Tottenham District where Rev. Samuel Boateng is the District Pastor. The District was officially inaugurated on 12th October 2008 by Apostle M. S. Appiah, the Resident Missionary assisted by Pastor Kwesi Otoo, London Metropolitan Area Head with Rev. Raymond and Mrs. Martha Odei as the District Pastor. |
